Where do mice live during the day?
Q. Do they always live in the walls? Or is it possible that they live in your things?
Asked by student - Tue Jun 10 11:13:02 2008 - Maintenance & Repairs - 5 Answers - Comments
A. Mice may actually leave your home during the day and only visit at night, or they could stay inside the house. Places I've found nests inside were in with camping/hiking gear; shoes; under the kitchen cabinet (behind the toe kick.); under the stove (pull the bottom drawer out and you'll see the droppings; behind the dishwasher. Outside: in the dog house; under a decorative rock; under the shed.

How can a person live a happy life in solitude?
Q. Say someone, for whatever reason, is going to live the rest of thier life alone- no family, no friends, no lovers. Their only contact with people will be at work and so forth, in a formal setting. How can this person live a happy life? Name some things they can do to live a happy life, void of personal relationships.

A. I attempted to do this about 3 years ago. I bought a old hunting camp in northern Maine. No television, no computer, I even cut my own firewood. I loved it! However, due to financial difficulty's I had to move back into a urban environment. To occupy my time, I set up a schedule kind of like something you would set up for a child. I woke up, made my bed, took a shower, ate breakfast, then I would clean my home inside and out. I would work on sculptures for an hour a day, I would read for at least 2 hours. Paint for a hour or so. After about a year of this lifestyle, however, I found that I was talking to my dogs and cats as if they where people. That set off alarms that I needed more interaction.

if I live at home with my parents, do I have to count their income when it comes to filing my taxes?
Q. I live at home with my daughter in a double house. My parents, brother, sister, me and my daughter live downstairs. My grandparents and uncle live upstairs. When I file taxes, am I supposed to say I live with my parents and will their income be factored in causing me to get less money back? Or should I just say that it's just me and my daughter?

A. You pay taxes based on the income that *you* earn, not on what your parents earn. If your parents are providing more than half of your support, they may be claiming you as a dependent. If that's the case, you can't take the personal exemption for yourself, so your total deduction would be slightly less. If they're paying more than half the support for your daughter, they may also be able to claim her as a dependent as well. If that's the case, you won't be able to claim her either. If your parents are supporting you, make sure you check with them before you fill out your own return. In *no* case would you *ever* include your parents' income on your tax returns. And the only time you'd ever need to mention them at all on your return is if… [cont.]

How can a stream be live if there is buffering?
Q. Hello everyone I was wondering, how can a live stream truly be live if there is buffering. To my understanding, buffering is downloading a certain amount of data before starting play back to the viewer. Do live streams get delayed a few seconds before they start? Do they get delayed by the length of their buffers? Any reply will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A. Yes they do! If they didnt buffer, the stutter would be terrible.

Where are people going to live when rent keeps going up?
Q. I live in Northern Virginia and probably one the most expensive places to live. I am a college student and think about my future a lot once I graduate. The thing is where are people going to live in the next 3-4 years from now when apartment rent, house market value, and other things just keep going up? Lately I've been hearing about foreclosures and the house market plummeting. What about the low-income families? Does anyone think about this? I know I am not the only one. Many you might say go to the politics and government sections but I thought I post my comment in this section. Can I get some feedback please. Thanks a lot.

A. Yes-we live in a high cost area. I am about 2 hours from DC and we are a satellite local for commuters-houses are selling RIGHT now for $199,000 for a 15,000 sq ft 3 bed 2 bath. We have a good bit of folks who commute to DC from our area. And rent is high in the area too. As for the poor-honestly no one thinks about it because it is too depressing to admit many families live in poor conditions and that means kids too. I worked in social services foryears and in public housing. I worked with a lot of nice families who live pay check to pay check and will likely never get out of that. Buying a house today is a luxury that sadly not everyone will get and some people who never should have gotten a loan did and they are caught in this… [cont.]

A. Hi fornoonex3, Have you tried signing in with another account? Get a friend to try signing in using their username and password. If this works, then there might be something on the server side (Microsoft) of things. If things persist, check out the Live Messenger team page: You can get in touch with the right people through there. Cheers, Ron Windows Outreach Team

How long can a tree live under perfect conditions?
Q. How long could your average pine tree live if it was in the perfect place to get all the sun, rain, nutrients etc that it could ever want and never got diseases and bugs never touched it? I've heard bristlecone pines are the oldest trees in the world, but could an average pine not live for that long too? What eventually kills a tree that has already lived thousands of years?
Asked by Jack of Eternity - Sat Aug 27 22:06:48 2011 - Botany - 1 Answers - Comments
A. The natural limit on the life of a tree, pine or other species, is natural disasters such as wind, lightening strikes, fires, floods, earthquakes, landslides, avalanches, droughts, etc. Pines can live for hundreds of years. I have seen reports that creosote bushes can be as much as 10,000+ years!

Steps to live in a different state after graduating?
Q. I want to live in Virginia after i finished undergraudate in connecticut. I live in CT, but plan to get part time or full time mba at uva, william and mary, or one of those schools. Im a junior as of now. What are my steps after i graduate to be able to live in virginia and get a job/mba?

A. If you are trying to get residency in VA then look at the school rules. I managed to get residency in another state while going to school by becoming a homeowner and becoming a "serious" tax payer. If you are going to rent, then just look for a nice place to live and when you think you have found a good spot, drive past it at different times of the day to be sure that it is livable while you are concentrating on your education. Finding a job that will be flexible might be hard, but search around, and you'll find something. Bartending is always a good one. I am a nurses' aide through grad school...not glorious but it pays and sees me through. Good luck!

I live abroad and would like to sponsor my husband to immigrate to the US. How do I go about it?
Q. I have been living abroad for over 10 years and have never filed income taxes in that time. I don't owe anything, but I know I should have filed anyway, I was just too lazy to figure out how. Now I'm married and am expecting our first child in a few weeks. We're ready to move to the US but I'm worried about the tax thing. Will this be a major issue? Can I overcome this? Also, is it possible to live in one country but apply for immigration in another? We live in China, but my husband is from a small African country. It would be faster and easier to go through their embassy, but am I allowed to do that? My husband goes there often on business, but I legally reside in China. Can anyone give me real answers? Thanks.

A. I assume you are a US citizen. If you did not owe any tax then failure to file is not an offense and there is no penalty. If your non-liability for tax depends on claiming the foreign earned income exclusion, then you need to file back tax returns for six years (although the IRS is not excluded from demanding earlier returns or claiming tax for earlier years, it generally does not do so, nor does it usually want nonfilers to bother with earlier tax returns). In general the IRS is glad to cooperate in nonfilers regularizing their status. If you work in China for a US organization or a subsidiary of one, then your spouse may be eligible for "expedited naturalization" irrespective of never having lived in the USA. Here's an… [cont.]

What are fish that can live in a tank together?
Q. I want to get fish but I only want two, like a beta or a goldfish. I have had betas before but they don't live very long so if you could also tell me what kind of fish live long, even if they can just live by themselves. Thanks! I don't even have a tenk yet. I will get all that when I decide on a fish.

Do you put live plants in your crested gecko tank?
Q. I'd like to know if anyone does this? And if so, which ones?? Also how do you go around cleaning with live plants in the tank?? I have never kept a Crested gecko before, but I am very interested, I am also interested in keeping live plant species in this tank, which is why I ask.. But it seems like it would be difficult to clean a tank that has mud on the bottom and live plants?

A. Most people leave them in the pots so they can be removed for cleaning and maintenance. Make sure you change the soil to something organic and wash all possible pesticides off. The plants will help with your humidity and give them wonderful hiding places. Many people use pothos and other low light plants to keep from needing supplemental lighting

What living things can be divided in half and both halves still live?
Q. I am not talking about a-sexual reproduction like bacteria dividing in two intentionally. For example, I have read that there are some small species of worms (not night crawlers) that can be cut in half and have both sides live on. Does anyone know of anything similar?

A. You're thinking of Planaria, a kind of flatworm. There are other things that can be cut to pieces and live on, though. You can do it to lots of plants, for instance. You can do it to sponges.
