A. industrialisation led to the complete seperation of home and workplace. In previous centuries, most people had worked in or near their own homes, and businesses were often family affairs, with wives and children being involved. industrialisation meant that people's home lives were seperate from their working lives in a way that they had not been before. Industrialisation also meant that the role of the housewife changed very much. In earlier centuries, housewives were very much involved in production of foodstuffs, household items, and most importantly cloth (spinning wool and flax into thread had always been one of the main occupations of the housewife).
