What are good movies set in the 19th century?
Q. I've started working on some kind of story, and it's set in the 19th century, the big part of it, and I need some good resources for the descriptions, of the nature, houses and similar. I've already done some book researching and read some books, however, I wish to watch a good movie to really get in the groove :D Sorry, forgot about country. No, not the States, I had Europe in mind. Probably England, France and Germany.

A. Gangs of New York comes to mind, almost all westerns, and all Civil War films. Do you mean in the US? For England, check out many of the Merchant-Ivory productions, Room With a View, for example. Or Wings of a Dove. Both are turn of the century, but might be good. Impromptu (1991) is set in 1830s France. The Duelists might also be good for France. Plus, any of Charles Dickens' books that have been made into films. One thing you need to think about is when during the 19th century. The world changed very radically during those 100 years, probably more than in any other century, including the 20th (a case could be made for either.
